EMILY GILRUTH wrote|: "Set over an all hedge course, with three lane crossings, it was slightly shorter than the Melton (2.5 miles). The going was amazing for the time of year. I had a great ride leading till the last lane crossing just before the finish where, having jumped into the lane, I managed to go head first into a tree- which somewhat stopped me short! Tori Stubbs went on to win riding a horse she had never ridden before!"

YVONNE GOSS writes" enjoyed my ride round on Red, though I had three stops. (Red belongs to Sarah Myhill). Was surprised how the going had changed overnight ! At first with the timber I thought it was going to be a small course until I met the hedges with ditches, not too sure where the best place was to jump them. You tend to just kick on and hope. As usual an interesting course and VERY enjoyable, good to see plenty of runners. A big thank you to the farmers and I will be back next year!"
JOHN KNOWLES told us"The going was hard work in parts for my 6 y.o. home bred hunter but there was always a way through. The diagonal hedge between markers 2 and 3 is always a problem out hunting and this was compounded by a loose horse running along it in the race. I fell five fences from home but thanks to a horse catcher was able to re-mount and finish the course"
PHILIP SLANE said:"Everything was superbly organised and the course was varied, challenging and interesting. After the inevitable quick start, involving some 20 riders over the first 5 or 6 warm-up fences, at the last of the gentle hedge and rails a horse ran out along some 40 yards of the obstacle, with the jockey still on board!.This led to all sorts of chaos and hold ups which were unpredictable at this point in the race. Running on down the hill along the West side of Cold Overton Wood a stiffer challenge of ditch and hedge saw a few fallers, then some big hedges accounted for a few more running alongside the Knossington road, and down towards Bleak House. The field was well stretched out by this stage and the long uphill towards the finish sorted out the real contenders from the also rans. I noted several who remounted during the ride , some of whom went on to strong finishes and placings. For my own part Billy, my veteran fieldmaster gave me a fourth consecutive immaculate ride, ignoring every refusal he saw!
ZOE GIBSON said :"....it was brilliant fun. Emily (Gilruth) is a superb person to follow- and incredibly consistent in her hunt races record also as I see from the past few race results"
EMILY GILRUTH said"...the ground this year was fantastic and it was set over a very good course which flowed really well. There were enough decent questions of hedges with ditches towards but also had alternative options so the course suited everyone. I had a fantastic ride round and hopefully will be back next year"

OUR CORRESPONDENT writes: Patrick Millington won the Cheshire Hunt O'ssmans Ride by a length from Neil Gittens. On a snowy morning at Haughton Hall riders arrived from all over the country for an event superbly organised by Robin Williams. 17 riders made the field, including the last two winners, Katherine Diggle and Charlie Barlow. Others included Yvonne Goss , Sarah Myhill and quietly fancied Jonathan Lee. Sarah Myhill led over the first and, astonishingly, ran out at the third. The rest of the field swung into four glorious hedges down Garner's Straight. Jonathan Lee hit the top of the first and came down , later claiming pilot error, unusual for a Wynnstay man. The field split, Neil Gittens leading to the furthest end of the course. Eventually there were five contenders with Patrick Millington, Neil Gittens and Emily Gilruth fighting it out to the line. Patrick Millington prevailed at the end to claim the Joseph Heler O'ssmans trophy supported by Haynes Hanson and Clark Wine Merchants.
RYCK TURNER wrote( after a detailed account of the race) " What a fabulous race! The finishing area was full of steaming horses and red-faced jockeys all beaming with pride and a sense of achievement.....well done Charlie Barlow and his team for organising an excellent ride"

ZOE GIBSON wrote: "An interesting race certainly, SUCH a pace from the start-but then with such lovely going and with it being a flat track I suppose that is to be expected. I think it is a shame that there were so few finishers* and that a lot of that was down to the number of fallers-and that possibly was simply down to the pace - if you slightly caught a fence you would tip - as many did. A beautifully organised event with a great group of people - I forgot to ask David (Redvers) why they do not have a minimum weight - I think this makes it rather inaccessible to heavier hunting people ! YVONNE GOSS wrote of the Ingarsby: "Had a great ride from the little horse (Red) As always a good course, open ditch made a few sit back, for those that hadn't gone splash. The going was perfect, well worth a change of date and a good field of fit runners. Not sure I enjoyed having to sit behind,(Red likes to follow until over the last fence)though horse is sure footed, not so sure about some of the others !! Cannot beat being out in front and letting the rest battle it out. Red belongs to Sarah Myhill of the Teme Valley Tigers, and she had a long journey that morning as she lives in Wales, but it was to be well worth it. The organisers (Penny Zygmant and Co, ed.)did a fantastic job, everyone seems to have enjoyed the day, good to see so many younger faces giving us oldies a run for our money and beating us. Sure we will all be back for next years."
PHILIP SLANE wrote " did Ingarsby- great fun- loose horses at brook crossing caused some chaos " This was echoed by DIANA HALL
